On March 17th, 2023, Meta announced the launch of a new paid verification program for Instagram and Facebook users in the US. The program allows users to apply for a blue checkmark badge on their profile, indicating that their account has been verified by Meta as authentic.
The new program comes as a response to the growing demand for verification on social media platforms, particularly among influencers, celebrities, and other public figures who want to establish their credibility and legitimacy online. Meta's paid verification program is designed to provide a more streamlined and efficient way for users to obtain the coveted blue checkmark badge, while also providing an additional revenue stream for the company.
According to Meta, the criteria for verification include factors such as the account's completeness, authenticity, and public interest. The company has also stated that it will continue to verify accounts for free in certain cases, such as for public figures and brands that meet specific eligibility requirements.
Meta Verified subscription will be $14.99 USD/month (iOS/Android) or $11.99 USD/month on the web (Facebook only). It is only available in the United States, Australia and New Zealand for people 18 years or older and is not yet available in all places or for businesses.
How to get verified:
1. Go to ‘Settings’ on Instagram or Facebook. Click ‘Accounts Center’, then ‘Meta Verified’. Select the profile you want to verify.
2. Set up your payment method
3. Provide a government-issued ID, a phone number, and a valid email address. Once the application is submitted, Meta's team will review it to determine if the user meets the platform's criteria for verification.
